First computer-delivered IELTS exam opens in Ilocos Norte

The province of Ilocos Norte on Thursday launched the first shared laboratory in the Ilocos Region that will provide a computer-delivered International English Language Testing System (CD-IELTS) examination. For the convenience of Ilocano test takers, Nelson Basug, owner and CEO of Ilocos IELTS Review Center (IIRC), partnered with the International Education Specialists (IDP) Philippines to assist them in bringing the computer-based examination to Ilocos. The IELTS is a required standard English language proficiency test for every individual who wants to work, study or migrate abroad. “Instead of going to Metro Manila or Baguio to take the exam, the first IELTS on computer laboratory in Laoag is equipped with the best facilities and equipment — from the registration procedure, receiving updates, until the actual examinations,” Basug said in a media interview on Thursday following a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local government officials, private agencies as well as representatives from the education sector. The rooms are also conducive for testing experience as both computer and speaking test rooms are covered with high-density soundproofing,’ he added. Located on the 4th Floor of the FQG Building along Gen. Segundo Avenue, corner J. P. Rizal Street in this city, the new IDP-IIRC IELTS on computer shared lab is now accepting Ilocano test takers from Ilocos Norte including its neighboring provinces of Ilocos Sur, Cagayan Valley, Abra and Apayao. The IELTS test is available every Friday and Saturday with morning and afternoon sessions from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The IELTS on a computer offers a convenient way of complementing the reading, listening, and writing parts of the test using a computer, together with a video call speaking test with an IELTS examiner, allowing test takers to complete the entire test in a day. The test result is expected in three to five days with more testing schedules to choose from. ‘We are really excited to work with IIRC in opening the first IELTS computer lab in Laoag. Through this new lab, we are giving the opportunity to more Filipinos in accessing the IELTS on computer exam,’ said Hannah Esguera, IELTS Operations and Business Development Manager for IDP Philippines, in a statement. When asked if visually-impaired persons can take the IELTS in the computer lab here, Ann Lorraine Bentoso, IDP Philippines test center administrator, said in an interview Thursday that special arrangements can be made for that
