Ticket sold in Makati wins P8.9-M Mega Lotto jackpot

Another lone bettor from Metro Manila became an instant millionaire after hitting the PHP8.9 million jackpot of the Mega Lotto 6/45 draw on Wednesday night. In an advisory Thursday, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said the bettor’s winning combination 27-10-18-08-40-36 of the Mega Lotto 6/45 draw carried a total jackpot prize of PHP8.91 million. The ticket was purchased in Pio Del Pilar, Makati City. Winners have one year from the date of the draw to claim the prize, as specified in Republic Act 1169, the law on PCSO lotteries. All jackpot prizes must be claimed at the PCSO main office in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. Winners must write their names and signature on the back of the winning tickets and present two government-issued identification cards or documents. Lotto winnings of more than PHP10,000 are subject to 20 percent tax under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law. Meanwhile, 26 others won PHP32,000 each for guessing five out of the six winning digits, while 1,403 will get PHP1,000 each for four correct digits, and 23,275 will settle for PHP30 each for three correct digits. The 6/45 Mega Lotto is drawn every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The PCSO urges the public to patronize their games as a large chunk of revenues goes to charity programs.

Gov’t, private sector ink MOA on financial education program

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) signed a multi-party memorandum of agreement to institutionalize a curriculum that will help students achieve financial independence. In a statement, NEDA said the MOA signed on Thursday seeks to establish the Personal Finance 101: ‘My Peso and I’ curriculum as a three-unit elective course for selected higher education institutions (HEIs) nationwide. NEDA is partnering with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), BPI Foundation Inc. (BPIF), and members of the Financial Sector Forum (FSF), such as the Insurance Commission, Philippine Deposit Insurance Commission, and Securities and Exchange Commission. Personal Finance 101 is a curriculum that aims to provide college students with the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to achieve financial independence. Students will learn the basics of financial planning tools and techniques, as well as develop analytical skills to make crucial financial decisions regarding savings, credit, investments, insurance, and retirement planning. ‘We commend this initiative that supports Chapter 11 of the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, on promoting an inclusive, innovative, and healthy financial sector. Financial literacy has been identified as a major strategy to broaden and deepen financial inclusion,’ NEDA Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Rosemarie Edillon said. Under their respective charters, mandates, and advocacies, NEDA will consistently support the integration of Personal Finance 101 in HEIs. NEDA will also guide the development of course modules and other deliverables in all phases to ensure the successful implementation of this initiative.
