Vietnam Reports 8,813 New COVID-19 Cases

HANOI– Vietnam reported 8,813 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, down by 1,553 from Saturday, according to its Ministry of Health.

Among the new infections, one was imported and the rest were domestically transmitted in 60 provinces and cities.

The Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, remained the pandemic hotspot with 970 new cases yesterday, followed by the northern provinces of Bac Giang with 540 and Phu Tho with 511.

The new infections brought the total tally to 10,563,502 with 43,013 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 9,086,075 patients, or 86 percent of the infections, have so far recovered.

Nearly 211.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including roughly 194.5 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity. As of yesterday, it has registered nearly 10.6 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in Apr, 2021, said the health ministry.

Malaysia Reports 4,006 New COVID-19 Infections, Eight New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia reported 4,006 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,431,073, according to the health ministry.

There are seven new imported cases and 3,999 local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

A further eight deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 35,499.

The ministry reported 10,223 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,320,822.

There are 74,752 active cases, 98 are being held in intensive care and 61 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported that 52,712 vaccine doses were administered yesterday, and 84.9 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 81.3 percent are fully vaccinated and 49 percent have received boosters.
