Thousands Displaced in Bicol Region Due to Flooding from Tropical Storm Enteng


BICOL—The Office of Civil Defense (OCD-5) reported on Tuesday that extensive flooding caused by Tropical Storm Enteng has displaced approximately 2,073 families or 9,238 individuals across the Bicol region. These families are currently housed in evacuation centers or with relatives in Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Masbate, and Sorsogon.



According to Philippines News Agency, 1,695 families or 7,613 persons are taking shelter in 101 designated evacuation centers, while 378 families or 1,625 individuals are staying with relatives or outside formal shelters. Naz highlighted the collaboration with local disaster risk reduction and management offices (DRRMOs) to monitor the situation and provide essential social services to those affected. Camarines Sur has reported the highest number of evacuees, with 660 families in shelters, followed by Albay with 605 families, and Sorsogon with 453 families.



The region has experienced 194 storm-related incidents, predominantly floods, and several rain-induced landslides. Additionally, the storm has led to the partial damage of six houses, with falling trees reported as the primary cause. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is tasked with assessing these damages for validation.



Infrastructure has also been impacted, with nine national roads and bridges affected by the storm. In Camarines Norte, three major routes are currently impassable to all vehicles, two can only accommodate light vehicles, and four are reduced to one-lane traffic. The DSWD-Bicol continues its relief efforts, having distributed PHP7.1 million in humanitarian aid to the displaced populations and stranded passengers at regional ports.



Moreover, DSWD-Bicol has prepared an extensive stockpile of relief supplies and standby funds valued at PHP210 million, ensuring readiness for further assistance as the situation develops.
