The government will also not compromise on aspects of sovereignty and security and will continue to protect and preserve Malaysia’s interests, immunity and sovereignty, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

“The government will continue to take all necessary action to stop the demands of the Sultan of Sulu by using all available powers, rights and resources,” she said in a statement here today.

Malaysia, Philippines to explore further cooperation in various sectors – PM Anwar

MANILA, March 1 (Bernama) — Malaysia and the Philippines has agreed to explore further cooperation in various sectors as both neighbouring countries seek ways to elevate their bilateral relationship to new heights.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the bilateral cooperation is multi-sectoral, covering trade and investment, education, health and agriculture, among others.

‘We also discussed areas for further collaboration. New and important sectors such as the halal industry, food security and digital economy are among the key areas that I proposed as potential cooperation,” he said.

The prime minister said this during a joint press briefing with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr after a bilateral meeting at the Malacanang Palace today.

Earlier, the special aircraft carrying Anwar and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail arrived at Villamor Air Base here, to kick-start his two-day official visit to the Philippines.

Both countries, according to Anwar, have also agreed to resume the 8th Joint Commission Meeting to be led by both Foreign Ministers this year at a mutually convenient date.

The prime minister also spoke of further deepening people-to-people ties between Malaysia and the Philippines and continuing cultural exchanges and tourism.

“I acknowledged the role of the Philippines diaspora in Malaysia and their contribution to both of our economies, and as founding members of ASEAN and the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean growth area, the Philippines and Malaysia have Asean-centrality embedded into our regional outlooks,” he said.

On the South China Sea issue, Anwar said he discussed it with President Marcos in which both leaders shared concerns on the matter.

“Due to the complexity of the issue, we should try and engage and take a position at the multilateral level between ASEAN so that we have a comprehensive approach and achieve an amicable solution to this outstanding problem,” he said.

The prime minister also said he expressed his concern about the contentious issue of Myanmar which remained unresolved, adversely affecting Malaysia due to the huge number of its refugees.

He said the number of Myanmar refugees in Malaysia has exceeded 200,000 people.

“The President, in his wisdom, has reiterated the need for the five-point consensus, but I would certainly suggest exploring new areas on how the Myanmar junta can be persuaded to work and collaborate as a team within ASEAN and resolve the outstanding issue which cannot be considered as purely internal because it is affecting the security and welfare of the region,” he said.

Cambodian PM Tells Foreign Friends Not to Make Third Mistake to Cambodia

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has asked some foreign friends to avoid making the third mistake to Cambodia.

At the inauguration ceremony of two school buildings and the graduation ceremony of over 4,600 students of the Institute of Technology of Cambodia held here at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that the first mistake was that some foreign friends supported a coup d’Etat in 1970, which plunged Cambodia into a long civil war and genocide.

The second mistake was that some of them supported the Khmer Rouge in the United Nations from 1979 to 1991, he added.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, with these two mistakes, landmines and UXOs remain a major issue in Cambodia. The Kingdom has set a goal to clear all landmines by 2025.

“Please do not make the third mistake to Cambodia by pretending to be a democrat,” the Cambodian Premier underlined.

Full text of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s speech on 104th March 1 Independence Movement Day

SEOUL, March 1 (Yonhap) — The following is a translation of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s speech to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the March 1 Independence Movement. It was provided by his office.

Fellow Koreans, 7.5 million Korean compatriots overseas, decorated patriots who fought for the nation’s independence,

Today we celebrate the 104th March First Independence Movement Day.

First of all, I pay a heartfelt tribute to our fallen patriotic forefathers and patriots who sacrificed and devoted themselves to the cause of Korea’s freedom and independence.

My deepest gratitude also goes to our independence heroes and their bereaved families.

The March First Independence Movement in 1919 was a movement to build a free, democratic nation where the people are the rightful owners as stipulated in the 1919 Proclamation of Korean Independence and the Provisional Charter of the Constitution by the Korean Provisional Government.

It was a historic day. On that day our people showed to the whole world how much they yearned for change. The movement was an embodiment of their vision of the new world they dreamed of.

Today, 104 years later, we must look back to that time when we lost our national sovereignty; the time when our people suffered because we failed to properly prepare for a changing world.

We must gather our wisdom to seek ways to overcome the crises facing us: global polycrisis; North Korea’s nuclear threats and severe security environment; an increasingly fragmented and polarized society.

If we fail to read the changing trends of world history and do not properly prepare for the future, it is evident that the misfortunes of the past will be repeated.

Above all, we must remember those patriotic martyrs who gave their all for our country’s freedom and independence during the dark days when no one could ever imagine independence coming in their lifetime.

There is no future for us if we fail to rightfully remember the patriotic martyrs who devoted themselves to our homeland.

Fellow Koreans,

Now, a century after the March First Independence Movement, Japan has transformed from a militaristic aggressor of the past into a partner that shares the same universal values with us. Today Korea and Japan cooperate on issues of security and economy. We also work together to cope with global challenges.

In particular, the trilateral cooperation among the Republic of Korea, the United States and Japan has become more important than ever to overcome the security crises including North Korea’s growing nuclear threats and global polycrisis.

We must stand in solidarity with countries that share universal values in order to contribute to promoting the freedom of global citizens and the common prosperity of all humankind.

This spirit of solidarity and cooperation is the same spirit that called for our nation’s freedom and independence 104 years ago.

Fellow Koreans,

The prosperity that we enjoy today is the result of our ceaseless efforts to defend and expand our freedom as well as our enduring belief in universal values. We must never stop making such effort.

It is the right way to honor the patriotic martyrs who sacrificed and dedicated themselves to the freedom and independence of our country.

Whether glorious or shameful, our history must not be forgotten. It must be remembered to protect our future and to prepare for the decades to come.

Marking the 104th anniversary of the March First Independent Movement, let us remember the patriotic heroes who devoted themselves to our homeland; and let us reflect on the unfortunate times of our history and contemplate what must be done for our future prosperity.

Fellow Koreans,

Let us inherit the spirit of the Proclamation of Korean Independence and build a free, peaceful, and prospering future.

PM Calls All Political Parties to Respect the Citizens’ Political Rights

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has called on all political parties in Cambodia to respect the political rights of the citizens.

In his address to the inauguration ceremony of two school buildings and the graduation ceremony of over 4,600 students of the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that a group of young activists who used to support the opposition party turned to support the Royal Government and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, but they have been insulted by some parties or individuals.

“You (Opposition party or activists) have not respected the political freedom of these young people. They are well aware that their support for the opposition party has been in vain in the past, and they now know who you are,” he continued, adding that they thought it would be better to work with the government such as in environmental protection or other issues for the national interest.

At the same time, the Premier appealed to all youth groups not to use violence or excessive actions against those who insulted them, just release statements to explain to the public about the truth.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that those political parties should come to learn from the CPP because it has never prevented its members from joining other parties. “We always respect their right to choose. All should learn about real democracy by respecting the rights of the people and not to do anything to make the youths react more strongly,” he stressed.
