PH CONSULATE GENERAL EXPLORES POSSIBLE PARTNERSHIPS IN VOCATION, TECHNICAL EDUCATION FOR FILIPINOS IN CHONGQING

CHONGQING 27 June 2022 – Philippine Consul General to Chongqing Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo met with President of the Chongqing Vocational College of Transportation in Jiangjin District, Mr. Zhang Wenli, on 21 June 2022, to discuss the potential cooperation in vocational and technical education, including a short training course on Cross-Border E-Commerce for Filipinos in the municipality.

President Wenli took the Consul General on a tour of CVCT’s training facilities for e-Commerce Livestreaming, Construction Machinery, Smart Manufacturing, New Energy Vehicle, Modern Logistics Management, Engineering Survey and Smart Construction, among other programs.

Both sides agreed to take subsequent steps to bring potential partnerships to fruition.

PH CONSUL GENERAL ENCOURAGES CHONGQING INVESTMENTS IN THE PHILIPPINES’ ELECTRIC VEHICLE INDUSTRY

CHONGQING 27 June 2022 – Philippine Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo visited the assembly plant of the Chongqing Golden Queen New Energy Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Yongchuan District, Chongqing upon the invitation of Mr. Zhang Wenli, the company’s president on 21 June 2022. The plant produces a hybrid compact car that could be customized according to market preferences.

Following the enactment of RA 11697 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act, Consul General Mayo encouraged the company to consider the Philippines as an investment destination and potential site for an overseas assembly plant.

AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR ROBINSON AO PAYS FAREWELL CALL ON SECRETARY LOCSIN

PASAY CITY 27 June 2022 – Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. received Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Steven Robinson AO as the latter paid a farewell call on 21 June 2022 at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

During the call, the two sides looked forward to the elevation of Philippine-Australian relations to a Strategic Partnership and a possible visit by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to the Philippines later this year.

PH MAKES CONTRIBUTION TO TONGA RELIEF FUND

CANBERRA 27 June 2022 – Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega turned-over to Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Tuku’aho, High Commissioner of Tonga in Australia, the contribution of the Philippines to the Fakalikutonga Recovery Fund in the amount of US$10,000 in a simple ceremony held at the Embassy of the Philippines in Canberra on 21 June 2022.

The contribution of the Government of the Philippines to the Fakalikutonga Recovery Fund represents the solidarity of the Filipino people with the people of Tonga as they build back better from the disaster. The Fund was established in response to the devastation caused by the volcanic eruption and tsunami in Tonga in January this year.

The Philippines, as a Pacific country prone to natural disasters, strives to further improve its disaster recovery and resilience mechanisms. Like other Pacific island countries, the Philippines views climate change as a major security challenge and thus, it is committed to global efforts to reduce emissions and address the impact of climate change.

During the ceremony, HRH Princess Tuku’aho presented a note of appreciation from the Government of Tonga to Ambassador De La Vega.

Singapore Reported 5,116 New COVID-19 Cases

SINGAPORE, Jun 27 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore reported 5,116 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total tally to 1,408,358.

Of the new cases, 4,697 were local transmissions and 419 were imported cases.

Among the local cases, 457 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, and 4,240 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

A total of 377 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with 11 cases in intensive care units.

No new deaths were reported due to COVID-19, leaving the death toll unchanged at 1,408, the ministry said.

Malaysia Reports 2,003 New COVID-19 Infections, One More Death

KUALA LUMPUR– Malaysia reported 2,003 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,556,664, according to the health ministry.

There are three new imported cases, with 2,000 cases being local transmissions, data released by the ministry showed.

One more death has been reported, taking the death toll to 35,746.

The ministry reported 1,861 new recoveries, lifting the total number of cured and discharged to 4,492,767.

There are 28,151 active cases, with 31 being held in intensive care and 19 of those in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 5,938 vaccine doses administered yesterday and 85.9 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 83.5 percent are fully vaccinated, and 49.4 percent have received boosters.
