THREE MEN ARRESTED FOR LOANSHARK HARASSMENT CAUSING HURT

The Police have arrested three men, aged 24 and 43, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment causing hurt.

 

On 19 August 2022 at about 7.05pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at the vicinity of Clark Quay, where a male victim was allegedly assaulted by three men in relation to a loan he had taken from a loanshark.

 

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Tanglin Division and Criminal Investigation Department established the identities of the three men and arrested them on 20 August 2022.

 

The three men will be charged in court on 22 August 2022. Under the Moneylenders Act 2008, first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment causing hurt shall be punished with imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, and caning of between five and eight strokes.

 

The Police have zero tolerance towards loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

 

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work or assist them in any way. Members of the public can call the Police at ‘999’ or the X-Ah Long Hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
