The 14th Thai Culture and Food Festival in Melbourne


On 5 February 2017, H.E. Mr. Chirachai Punkrasin, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, and Mrs. Kanyaratana Punkrasin, spouse, attended the 14 Thai Culture and Food Festival 2017 at the Federation Square, Melbourne. Mrs. Tessa Sullivan, Councillor of Melbourne City Council, and Ambassador of Thailand to Australia kindly gave remarks during the opening ceremony. This year Festival is organized as a special tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and his achievements. Throughout his 70-year reign, His Majesty had worked tirelessly to improve the livelihood of the Thai people across the nation.

There were varieties of activities at the Festival namely Buddhist ceremony, exhibitions of His Majesty's biography, the Royal Projects, the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, paintings of His Majesty by the Thai community in Melbourne, live musical performance of His Majesty's compositions by Melbourne Jazz Ensemble, cooking demonstration of His Majesty's favourite dishes, and "Chitralada Garden" zone - a model of research centre inside His Majesty's palace. In addition, people were able to buy Thai handicrafts, products from the Royal Projects, memorabilia as well as enjoyed Thai foods and desserts. There were approximately 35,000 people participated in this Festival.
