SK Telecom, Intel develop technology to improve speed of network for 6G service

SK Telecom Co., South Korea’s leading mobile carrier, said Thursday it has jointly developed with U.S. chipmaker Intel Corp. a technology to improve the speed of the internal system of a core communications network needed for the sixth generation (6G) network service.

SK Telecom said the technology would help improve the internal communications speed of a bare metal-based cloud native network and reduce its latency by allowing modules to communicate with each other without a proxy.

Bare metal cloud is a light weight cloud service that offers hardware resources without installments of operating systems or virtualization infrastructure.

SK Telecom and Intel have announced the technology research results in a white paper and plan to push for standardization of the technology for 6G service with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, a global mobile telecommunication standards organization.
