S. Korea, EU discuss economy, financial cooperation

South Korea and the European Union have discussed ways of stronger cooperation on economic and financial issues of mutual interests, Seoul’s finance ministry said Thursday.

The 11th round of the director-level South Korea-EU Macroeconomic Dialogue took place in Brussels on Wednesday, where the two sides discussed how to work more closely on a range of economic security issues, including supply chains, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

South Korea asked the EU to seek measures to ease burdens on South Korean businesses regarding policy schemes that Europe has been pushing for on electric vehicles, as well as a carbon tax, among other things.

They also shared their assessment on the global macroeconomic circumstances and respective financial policy measures, the ministry added.
