PhilHealth Settles PHP22.8 Million Claims with PGH for Heart Attack Treatment

Manila: The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has disbursed PHP22.8 million to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for the initial batch of claims related to the Ischemic Heart Disease – Acute Myocardial Infarction (IHD-AMI) benefit package. This payment represents PhilHealth’s ongoing effort to ensure the availability of vital health services to Filipinos by facilitating prompt claims reimbursements.

According to Philippines News Agency, PhilHealth President and CEO Edwin Mercado emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting members with heart disease by ensuring swift processing and payments for hospital services. Mercado stated that PhilHealth would continue to visit various regions to personally oversee the efficient handling of claims.

The IHD-AMI benefit package provides coverage of up to PHP523,853 for patient treatment costs and is accessible at all accredited public and private health facilities, ranging from Levels 1 to 3, equipped to offer the necessary services. Since March, this package has aided at least 77 heart attack claims at PGH.

PGH Medical Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi praised the enhancements in healthcare services for IHD-AMI patients, noting the record high service levels. He highlighted that there are no longer ‘charity’ cases among heart attack patients, reflecting significant improvements. Dr. Legaspi expressed optimism about further advancements under the current PhilHealth administration.
