Malaysia’s Human Resource Ministry Appointed As Asean-Oshnet 2021-2022 Chairman

PUTRAJAYA— The Malaysia’s Human Resource Ministry (KSM) through the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has been appointed as the ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET) chairman for the year 2021-2022.

KSM said in a statement, in conjunction with the appointment, a 22nd ASEAN-OSHNET Coordinating Board Meeting (22nd CBM) took place Tuesday in the new norm, whereas the 8th ASEAN-OSHNET Conference (8th AOC) will be held Wednesday.

It said ASEAN-OSHNET is a cooperative body dealing with issues regarding occupational safety and health (OSH) among ASEAN member countries, while the Coordinating Board Meeting (CBM) is an annual meeting organised by 10 ASEAN member countries on a rotational basis starting in 2000.

The ministry said among the matters discussed in the 22nd CBM today were issues related to regional OSH and the status of the progress of cooperation among member countries in developing standards, guidelines, and sharing of expertise in the field of OSH.

Also discussed was the proposed resolution of policy matters related to OSH management and new regional OSH initiatives, as well as proposed cooperation projects between member countries and ASEAN partners including Japan, Korea and China.

KSM said these matters would be raised during the Senior Labour Officials’ Meeting (SLOM) and subsequently presented to the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ (ALM) Meeting.

Meanwhile, the ministry said the theme for the 8th AOC to be held Wednesday is Work from Home, adding that AOC is a biennial conference that serves as a platform for sharing experiences and expertise among ASEAN member countries on the latest OSH issues.

Representatives from international organisations such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) and the International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI) will present their working papers based on the theme, it added.
