Malaysia Sees Fresh High Of 15,902 Daily COVID-19 Cases, 184 Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR– Malaysia reported 15,902 new COVID-19 infections, in the highest daily spike since the outbreak, bringing the national total to 996,393, the Health Ministry said yesterday.

Health Ministry Director-General, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said in a press statement that, 26 of the new cases are imported and 15,876 are local transmissions.

Another 184 deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 7,902.

Some 9,471 more patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 834,858, or 83.8 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 153,633 active cases, 950 are being held in intensive care and 468 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

Meanwhile, Health Deputy Director-General, Chong Chee Kheong, who heads the Greater Klang Valley special task force, said in a separate statement that, steps are being taken to cope with the surge of fresh infections in the area.

These include ensuring predictable and uninterrupted supply of oxygen, medication and other supplies, besides increasing manpower, logistics and other resources in the Klang Valley, which encompasses the capital city of Kuala Lumpur and part of the adjacent Selangor state.
