Various ‘ole-ole’ (gifts or souvenirs) are brought home by Indonesians working in this country to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri in their respective hometowns.
Checks by Bernama at the Puteri Harbour International Ferry Terminal showed that kuih raya (cookies), Raya clothing and Malaysians’ favourite drink, Milo, are the most popular gifts to be shared with their relatives.
A chef, Umi Kalsum Md Noor, 49, bought more than 10 types of kuih raya to serve to family and friends who will visit her house in Selat Panjang, Indonesia during the Aidilfitri celebration.
“It is easier to buy as I am tired of cooking,” said Umi Kalsum, who has been working in Malaysia for over 10 years.
For 41-year-old lorry driver Rosman Sujadi, he was looking forward to returning home to celebrate Hari Raya in his village as he had been abroad for three years.
Rosman, from Tanjung Batu, Indonesia, said he bought gifts such as clothing and food to share with his family members.
“I feel like buying a lot of things to bring back to Indonesia,” he added.
Meanwhile, ferry operator Tobindo (M) Sdn Bhd director Muhammad Aiman Jazmy said the number of registered passengers had increased two to three times since yesterday until this Friday.
“For normal days there are four trips to Tanjung Balai and Batam, and on this last day, we added two more trips so we can accommodate about 5,000 to 6,000 passengers,” he said.
