SHANGHAI, January 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — A leading enterprise hybrid-cloud platform technology and technical service provider in China, Shanghai KeyTone Information Technology Co. Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "KeyTone Cloud", www.keytonecloud.com ), announced today that Cisco will make a strategic investment in KeyTone Cloud and that the parties have signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation to bring hybrid-cloud technology to Chinese IDC & Telco service providers and enterprises.
KeyTone Cloud is a cloud computing technology provider and a managed hybrid-cloud service provider. In earlier 2014, KeyTone Cloud completed Series-A funding co-led by Gobi Partners and CBC. In September 2014, KeyTone Cloud released its OpenStack-based cloud platform called KCloud, with some advanced elastic service functions such as of Auto Scaling and Live Vertical Scale-up of VM instance implemented on top of OpenStack. KeyTone is the first and the only OpenStack-based platform in China thus far that has implemented these elastic cloud features. In addition, KeyTone implemented client-to-site VPN service over PPTP and OpenVPN, and site-to-site VPN service over GRE to enable rich inter-cloud connection capabilities that OpenStack does not support out of box. Besides KCloud, KeyTone has developed a cloud service operation management system, KEngine, which includes billing and reporting module, account recharge module, data center asset management, automated OpenStack installation module, integrated support ticket system, cloud monitoring and alerting modules, and cloud service data analysis tool, to name just a few. These backend modules are "must-haves" for cloud transformation of IDC & Telco service providers and enterprises, and yet they are not provided in official releases of OpenStack.
KeyTone’s cloud platform and technical services resolve the following three issues with DIY OpenStack deployment approach: 1) Lack of rich elastic services (much needed to compete with existing public clouds) with out-of-box official release; 2) Lack of operation-ready backend BOSS systems that ISP and Enterprises need to be able to use OpenStack for public cloud deployment and/or private cloud deployment; and 3) Lack of a experienced development and technical operation team that are capable of developing customized features and providing 24x7x365 cloud operation services to support end users.
"We are very pleased that KeyTone Cloud will be working with Cisco to bring hybrid-cloud technologies to APAC market, and has received a strategic investment from Cisco," said Dr. Larry Jiang, Founder and CEO of KeyTone Cloud, "The cloud computing market in China is still in its infancy. Utilizing hybrid cloud resolves, to a large extent, the security and controllability issues that Chinese enterprises and institutions are concerned about in public clouds. Hybrid cloud deployment offers more control, better security, better reliability, and better performance than the public cloud; at the same time it also allows users to enjoy flexibility, resiliency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of the public cloud to meet a certain portion of their business needs. I believe that cooperation in hybrid-cloud platform and SDN field with Cisco will create new business opportunities for both Cisco and KeyTone Cloud in the enterprise hybrid cloud markets in the APAC region."
KeyTone Cloud was founded by Dr. Larry Jiang in 2014, and its founding engineering team consists of experienced cloud platform developers and cloud service operation professionals from leading cloud computing companies and internet companies. KeyTone’s mission is to unleash the power of cloud computing to cloud service providers and enterprises by building an OpenStack-based KeyTone Cloud Platform and by providing professionally managed hybrid cloud services for IDC/Telco SPs and enterprises.
