Former national para-athlete turned pimp Adam Kamis was sentenced to 38 months' jail on today, after he admitted last week to posing as a female social escort online to recruit women into vice.
The 37-year-old, who became popularly known as "Adam Onearmrunner" after he lost his right arm in a motorcycle accident in 2003, had been convicted of 11 charges of procuring or attempting to procure women for prostitution, and one charge under the Prevention of Human Trafficking Act for sexually exploiting a 16-year-old girl.
According to court documents, Adam successfully recruited 15 women through the escort agency SG Freelancers, which he had set up in early 2013.
Posing as a freelance female escort, he recruited women via email, Facebook messages and advertisements, promising them the chance to earn "up to S$1,000 (RM3,031)" for every freelance assignment.
He would later pretend to be a member of the agency, and meet up with the women in his bedroom. There, he conducted a mock interview and asked to try the sexual services the women were willing to offer clients. Some women were also asked to return for further "verification" sessions, if he deemed they had not performed satisfactorily.
Adam advertised the services of the women on various websites and managed to get five customers between 2013 and October last year. No commission was received.
In 2009, Adam won a gold and a silver medal for Singapore at the Arafura Games for athletes with disabilities and a silver medal in the men's 800m run in the fifth Asean Para Games in Kuala Lumpur.
