Malaysia Reports 2,239 New COVID-19 Infections, Three More Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR– Malaysia reported 2,239 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,478,112, according to the health ministry.

There are three new imported cases, with 2,236 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry website showed.

Three more deaths have been reported, raising the death toll to 35,615.

The ministry reported 1,263 new recoveries, taking the total number of cured and discharged to 4,411,762.

There are 30,735 active cases, with 45 being held in intensive care and 23 in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 23,148 vaccine doses administered yesterday and 85.4 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 82.5 percent are fully vaccinated, and 49.2 percent have received boosters.

Singapore Reports 2,651 New COVID-19 Cases

SINGAPORE – Singapore reported 2,651 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total tally to 1,242,884.

Of the new cases, 356 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, and 2,295 through ART (antigen rapid tests), according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 341 were local transmissions and 15 were imported cases.

Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 2,253 local transmissions and 42 imported cases, respectively.

A total of 274 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with nine cases in intensive care units.

One death was reported from COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total death toll to 1,363, the ministry said.

Vietnam Reports 1,594 New COVID-19 Cases

HANOI– Vietnam recorded 1,594 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, down by 301 from Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health.

All the new infections were domestically transmitted in 47 provinces and cities.

The Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, was the pandemic hotspot with 461 new cases recorded yesterday, followed by the northern Quang Ninh province, with 88, and the central Nghe An province with 80.

The infections brought the total tally to 10,696,630, with 43,065 deaths. Nationwide, 9,355,040 COVID-19 patients, or more than 87 percent of the infections, have recovered.

Nearly 217 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including roughly 197.1 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has gone through four waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity. As of yesterday, it has registered nearly 10.7 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, since the start of the current wave of infections in Apr, 2021, said the ministry.

One Killed, Five Injured In Indonesian Oil Refinery Fire

JAKARTA– One person was killed and five others wounded, as an oil refinery, operated by an Indonesian state-owned oil and gas firm, PT Pertamina, caught fire in Balikpapan town of East Kalimantan province yesterday, a rescuer said.

The accident occurred at 11:00 a.m. local time, and the victims were the workers of the firm and a contractor company, head of Search and Rescue Office in the province, Melki Anuskotta, said.

“One person was killed and five others injured,” he said.

The wounded people were treated at a hospital, and three of them suffered serious injuries, according to him.

The fire was extinguished about one hour later, he said.

According to Ely Chandra Peranginangin, communication manager of the factory, the fire occurred at Plant 5, hydro skimming complex unit, of the refinery.

The plant produces raw materials for gasoline, and measures have been taken, to ensure that the accident would not disrupt oil supply.

Malaysia Reports 3,029 New Covid-19 Infections, Five New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia reported 3,029 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,473,500, according to the health ministry.

There are no imported cases, with all 3,029 new infections being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

Five more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 35,607.

The ministry reported 1,116 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,409,159.

Of the 28,734 active cases, 42 are being held in intensive care and 33 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 50,875 vaccine doses administered yesterday, and 85.4 percent of the population have received at least one dose. Among them, 82.4 percent are fully vaccinated and 49.2 percent have received boosters.

Singapore Reports 4,831 New COVID-19 Cases

SINGAPORE, May 11 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore reported 4,831 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total tally to 1,225,024.

Of the new cases, 410 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, and 4,421 through ART (antigen rapid test), according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 394 were local transmissions and 16 were imported cases.

Among the ART cases, with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 4,225 local transmissions and 196 imported cases, respectively.

A total of 263 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with six cases in intensive care units.

Four more patients have died from complications due to the COVID-19 infection, taking the death toll to 1,356, the ministry said.
