20-Piso Coin Named Finalist for International Currency Awards

The 20-Piso New Generation Currency (NGC) coin has emerged as a finalist for the “Best New Coin or Series Category: Excellence in Currency 2022 Awards” of the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA).

In 2019, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) launched the bi-color 20-Piso coin featuring Manuel L. Quezon, the first president of the Philippine Commonwealth, on the obverse side; and the Malacañan Palace, BSP Logo and Nilad plant on the reverse side.

IACA chose the finalists from 39 nominated projects initiated by teams from 20 central banks, three commercial banknote issuers, nine suppliers to banknote industry, and one banknote distribution system organization.

Winners will be announced on 22 February 2022.

Launched in 2007, IACA’s Excellence in Currency Awards advocates and recognizes excellence in production, processing, management and distribution of currency.

In the 2021 Excellence in Currency Awards, the BSP’s Cash Servicing Initiative was awarded as Best Currency Initiative Implemented in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic (Central Banks Category). Meanwhile, the New Generation Currency Coin Series and Coin-Ed Campaign were honored in the 2019 Excellence in Currency Awards and ranked among the top three finalists for the Best New Circulating Coins and Best Public Education Program categories, respectively.

IACA is an organization that aims to provide international exchange for consultation and collaboration on matters of interest to stakeholders in the cash payments cycle.1
