The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Dato' Sri Anifah Aman will lead the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat (AMM Retreat) in Boracay, Philippines on 20 and 21 February 2017. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to ASEAN. The AMM Retreat will be preceded by several important meetings namely, Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) on 19 February 2017 and followed by the ASEAN Senior Officals' Meeting (SOM) on 20 February 2017. Philippines is the Chairman of ASEAN for 2017.

The AMM Retreat will involve the participation of Foreign Ministers, Senior Officials of ASEAN Member States, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and Permanent Representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.

The AMM Retreat will provide the opportunity for the ASEAN Foreign Ministers to discuss ASEAN's external relations and to follow-up the implementation of decisions made by ASEAN in previous Summits. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern as well as means to enhance ASEAN relations with its dialogue partners.

This is the first meeting where the Philippines will elaborate its priorities of its Chairmanship of ASEAN 2017 with the theme "Partnering for Change, Engaging the World". This is an important meeting which would shape ASEAN's strategy in community building efforts as well as to discuss ways to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN.
