ISTANBUL - The Philippines clinched The Most Fun Stand of the 21st East Mediterranean International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (EMITT) at the Tuyap Exhibition Center in Istanbul. EMITT ran from January 26-29 and drew drove of travelers who were interested to add more destinations into their travel bucket list.

This is the Philippines' second time to participate in EMITT. The Philippines participation in EMITT aims to promote the Philippines as an attractive tourist destination for the Turkish market and to increase the number of Turkish visitor arrivals in the Philippines.

Last year, the number of Turkish visitor arrivals to the Philippines increased by 31%. One of the reasons for the increase is the availability of daily flights from Manila to Istanbul and vice versa.

Mr. Francisco M. Lardizabal, Head of the Department of Tourism's (DOT) Strategic Development Technical Unit, and Mr. Gerard Panga, the DOT's Tourism Attache for London with jurisdiction over Turkey, led the 11-member delegation composed of four officials and members of the DOT, two personnel form the Philippine Embassy in Ankara, and five CEOs/Presidents of tour operators from the Philippines.

The Philippine delegation met with Ms. Deniz Sumerpalazo?lu, Sales Manager for Turkey of Emirates, and her team, to promote the Philippines as a travel destination in Southeast Asia for the Turkish market.

The DOT invited the Emirates team to join the Philippines familiarization tour on March 26 March to April 02. The said event is organized for 80-100 key agents from Europe. END
