KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The collaboration concept introduced by ASEAN can be used as a model to other international bodies such as the European Union (EU), although ASEAN member countries are not among the world super powers.

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) International Politics and ASEAN Relations senior lecturer, Dr Muhammad Fuad Othman said since ASEAN's establishment in 1967, it has succeeded in maintaining peace and security among its member countries, due to its principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of its member countries as contained in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

"Although it is embodied in an association, it doesn't mean that we have to be in agreement on all matters presented by its member countries...it is due to this unity in ASEAN that each of its member countries are given the platform to perform nation-building in their respective countries," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.....
